Buffalo – Africa’s Wild Wonders – The Secrets of Nature (VIDEO)
Massive herds of Buffalo cover the thick acacia scrub of the bushveld and their randomness is actually planned. With pathfinders and matriarchal subsets controlled by bulls, there is a sophisticated social structure to these animals. Feared by many predators but loved just as equally for their taste, this episode explores the complex hierarchy of Buffalo life.
I love them! The pathfinders are so kool…would like to know more about that…

Nice video, but… Lions are not the Buffalo's "only predator" – Spotted Hyenas can and do bring down adult buffalo if they are not with the herd. Spotted Hyena are immensely strong, very large, and unlike other Hyena species are social and live in clans containing many members, which means they can bring down buffalo in a group effort. However, it tends to be a much more gruesome and unpleasant end for the unfortunate buffalo, as Hyena do not kill their prey before devouring it, they just start tearing in as soon as they can sink their teeth into the animal.
